Hi, sweet girls.

Here is a tip about honorary degrees.

Honorary degrees were established to celebrate those who have made significant contributions to colleges, universities and/or society. Most of the recipients of honorary degrees are worthy of them. However, they are not supposed to be called “Dr.” Only those who have EARNED real doctoral degrees are entitled to be called “Dr.”

Honorary degrees are nice. Real degrees are much better.

I love you.

Hi, girls!

While college and careers may not be on your radar today, they will be eventually.

When applying for graduate school, I suggest you follow the application instructions to the letter. When drafting essays, I suggest you use subheadings to help the readers navigate the essay.

When applying for positions, I suggest you focus on your position duties AND accomplishments in your résumé.

When applying for positions, in your cover letter, I suggest you mostly focus on how your professional experience directly correlates with the position duties.

The world is yours.

Much love,

Auntie

Dear sweet girls,

I have the honor of serving as a vice president at a community college.

We have more than 17,000 students and five gorgeous campuses. We employ some of the best minds in higher education. I would put our college up against any college or university in the country.

Our students are smart, hardworking, involved, diverse and fun. Many of them are the first ones in their families to attend college. They deserve a better life for themselves and their families.

Our alumni are successful and include medical doctors, opera singers, corporate CEOs, nurses and welders. They contribute to their communities in meaningful ways – and they received their start at community colleges.

Every day we destroy negative stereotypes about community colleges, and I love it! If you decide to attend a community college before attending a four-year school, I will support you wholeheartedly.

I love you.
